Improve your results and perform well in your exams with our 10 tips for a successful school year. From choosing your studies to memorizing your lessons to establishing a healthy lifestyle, discover how to make the most of your year of study and pass your exams.

What is academic success?

For most students and their parents, passing their school year means passing all their exams and being able to register for the next year. However, this approach to success based purely on academic success has evolved in recent years. Today, your academic success combines both academic success and personal success. It allows you to see that you are on the right path in your professional path and to acquire knowledge that will be useful to you on many levels.

The importance of the mind in academic success

Before discussing the 10 tips for a successful school year, let's take a detour to explore the importance of the mindset in a student's success.

The more the selection of the school curriculum is adapted to your personality, your skills, and your desire for professional success, the more motivated you will be and will have a strong mind that will lead you to success. Are you afraid of failure? Tell yourself that the greatest athletes and entrepreneurs have all been confronted with failure at least once in their lives. But their passion, their ability to get back up, and their determination have helped them achieve their goals. If you want to succeed in your studies, you will have to work regularly and believe in yourself and your abilities.

Our 10 tips for a successful school year

If you're wondering how to make your school year a success, here are 10 tips to help you achieve your goal.

1.Choose the studies that suit you

Your training and associated studies involve choosing a course corresponding to both:

  • to future employment opportunities;
  • to the passion for the chosen field;
  • to your level of education obtained before you started; ●      to its suitability with the training followed.

These four points allow you to check that the school you are considering joining matches the direction you are dreaming of.

For example, EIMParis is an International Management School in Paris made for you if you want to do:

  • Business studies
  • Studies in Marketing and Communication
  • Studies in Human Resources

2.Work consistently to succeed

Learning a trade or integrating complementary professional skills requires regular work. The more it is planned by choosing a weekly study time for each specialty, the more you will be able to progress. Stick to your schedule as much as possible by creating a schedule in electronic or paper format that you will only have to follow day by day.

3.Prepare memorization techniques

We don't all memorize in the same way. We have 3 types of memory:

  • Visual memory: retaining information by having seen it and then re-visualizing it allows it to be integrated and retained;
  • Auditory memory: assimilate by listening like on a podcast or a video that you listen to regularly;
  • Kinesthetic memory: involves learning by moving or making movements. This is where we see some students needing to walk to grasp a lesson.

It is thus possible to use the 3 memories. The first two memories, visual and auditory, will be used during face-to-face or distance learning. Kinesthetic memory will be used more at home or in your student room during your revisions.

4.Prepare revision cards

A revision sheet is a summary of a lesson or a course chapter that includes the elements to memorize for your tests or exams.

Plan to write your revision cards. Write them at the end of each course or chapter. These cards allow you to:

  • find the essential information of the course;
  • prepare a useful argument in the event of a knowledge test; ●       review concisely.

These cards can be written manually for people with kinesthetic memory who will need to write to memorize. They can also be prepared on a computer. Remember to number them and indicate this number in your main notes to find them more easily.

5.Prepare your lessons

To be more effective in learning, prepare for your lessons by researching the subject, reading the content of upcoming lessons, or watching movies and videos. You can also research points that you have difficulty understanding.

6.Be present in class

Ongoing learning plays a large part in the success of your school year. By actively listening and participating regularly, you will more easily retain the content of the day.

7.Take notes

Taking notes allows you to exercise your visual, auditory, and kinesthetic memory. As a result, you are sure to retain all or part of the program by taking effective notes. Some will prefer it in a notebook, others on a computer, it's up to you to choose what suits you best.

8.Sleep well and eat well

Sleep is essential for learning. Our brain needs to rest to integrate the things learned during the day, but also to replenish its energy for the next day.

A healthy diet is also recommended:

  • do not skip meals;
  • vary your diet as much as possible;
  • eat meals at fixed times;
  • don't eat dinner too late before going to bed.

9.Take regular breaks

Want to succeed in your year? Take regular breaks, especially if you are in the middle of revising for an exam. Take advantage of your breaks to take a nap to recover energy or play a sport. Why not escape to music or do another activity? However, remember to adapt the length of your breaks according to the work you have to do.

This allows you to:

  • don't exhaust yourself with the task;
  • maintain good efficiency during lessons and work at home;
  • manage fatigue;
  • don't get tired of learning.

10.Have a mentor or seek advice

Success can also be a team effort. At EIMParis, our advisors help students in the crucial stages of their student journey: choosing a course, finding a work-study program, helping to prepare for a job interview, etc. If your school offers coaching or workshops of this type, take advantage of them. This will help you gain self-confidence and move forward more quickly on certain points that would have required much more effort if you had taken care of them alone.
